With several years of experience as a doula, and a tremendous passion for empowering women and their partners, Heather Johnson has been considered an amazing asset by all those who engage her services. Her natural ability to connect each family with their individual birth choices has allowed her the opportunity to utilize the extensive pregnancy and birth knowledge she has gained for almost two decades.
Heather has a BA in biology, is a DONA certified birth and postpartum doula, and is also a certified childbirth educator. With a passion to help other women succeed, Heather also mentors others who are working toward doula certification.
One of Heather’s most rewarding experiences was an apprenticeship with a local home birth midwife. It opened her eyes to the incredible power women have within themselves, and it inspired her to help families have better birth experiences in or out of the hospital.
Heather lives in Denver, Colorado, with her husband Jacob, their beautiful five children, and sweet dog Calley.
Hello! I have been attending births regularly for quite some time now, even before the real doula work began; I enjoyed supporting friends and family during their birth experiences and was happy to lend a helping hand. I also have a huge passion for photography and capturing those precious moments both during labor and after. Photography has brought me closer to the birth world, and I am excited to be pursuing both passions now.
I am trained as a doula through DONA international, but I am constantly expanding my knowledge through more experience, workshops, classes, and many books/media resources. Along wiht my caring hands and heart, I bring many useful tools and resources to every birth, including hot stones and massage tools, essential oils for armoatherapy, a TENS unit, and other useful goodies.
In addition to my doula training, I have a healthcare background and have worked in hospitals; I am a Certified Nurse Assistant, and also a certified Basic Life Support (CPR) and First Aid Instructor (through both the Red Cross and AHA). Every birth brings me great joy (and tears), as the miracle of life and the wonders of our bodies amaze me every time. It is a privilege to help welcome these tiny humans into the world, and my goal is to help you achieve the birth experience you want. There is so much LOVE in a room during labor, birth, and after; I am lucky and so honored to be surrounded by that all the time. When you love what you do, it doesn't seem like work at all. :)
